I have, and still do, spend a good amount of time telling people that when we share the bad times, as well as the good, that - even if it doesn't CHANGE the situation itself - it helps us all, by knowing that we are not alone; not the "only one" going through such and such a time. It helps us all to see that we are each individuals who have much the same struggles in our lives and that we all need one another's support. When we share out lives with each other we find counsel. When we shut ourselves off from each other we tend to believe that "I am the only one" thinking this, or that "I'm not as spiritual as they are", etc. Becoming hermits emotionally can lead to becoming hermits spiritually - and I don't think that's what God wants us to do. So true, John.
